Richard Farley is both an architect and an engineer. Rich's career focuses on managing and directing major architectural projects infused with technology. Rich directed the US Postal Service Processing & Distribution Center, orchestrating the efforts of a wide range of design professionals to realize the constructed project. He has the respect of the major construction managers. Rich has a phenomenal record of delivering projects that consistently address the owner's need, meet budget and achieve aggressive schedules. Most importantly, he advocates and supports excellent architectural design. He also has the skills to coordinate engineering design to support and enhance the architecture.
As a Principal / Project Director at Kling, he provides hands-on project direction and quality management, develops project procedures, ensures performance of the project team, and coordinates project execution within budget and schedule. Rich was the project director for SAP America and led Kling in the daunting assignment to design and construct the 410,000 SF building and parking structure in 18 months. He currently directed the 930,000 SF Postal Facilities project in Southwest Philadelphia. This project was awarded the Gold Award in Building Design & Construction magazine's 9th Annual Building Team Awards competition. Kling submitted its work on the US Postal Service Processing and Distribution Center in Philadelphia for consideration in this year's 9th Annual Building Team Awards, believing that the seamless collaboration between administrators, designers, construction managers, and community groups neighboring the site resulted in novel solutions to common problems that satisfied all parties involved. He also has directed a master plan for the soon-to-be vacated postal lands at 30th Street Station.
Rich is a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania, teaching graduate courses in Architecture. He was recently awarded the G. Holmes Perkins Medal for Excellence in teaching. Rich is a graduate of Penn and was the first recipient of dual Masters Degrees in both architecture and engineering.
Rich has lectured and provided speaking engagements for a host of schools and professional organizations. He has presented at the Wharton Real Estate Seminars and the Urban Land Institute. A resident of Philadelphia, he is active on local boards and committees, most notable, the United Way and ULI Philadelphia. He is a founding member of Positively Philadelphia.
