John Ryan is Vice-President, Telecom & Network Systems for American Express. He leads the group that is responsible for planning, building and operating AXP's worldwide customer and employee communications systems for all payments, travel and banking businesses. John is a member of the American Express Technologies Infrastructure leadership team.
John has more than 25 years experience in technology infrastructure, with significant background in technology architecture, telecommunications, and networking systems. Prior to his current role, he was Vice-President, Technical Architecture in American Express, responsible for developing and aligning technical standards for mainframe, mid-range and end user computing, telecom and networks, development tools and middleware. Before joining American Express in 1995, John successfully started and ran a network consulting and deployment business, after working for long distance telephone companies in the U.S.
John is a member of Advisory Boards for Cisco Systems and Verizon Wireless and past leader of the Northern Virginia Technology Council.
John lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife and two daughters, and is an active Girl Scout leader and general aviation enthusiast.
