Keynote Address: IBM - Can Mission Critical Servers and Storage be Green?

David Anderson is a Professional Engineer who is passionate about Green IT and building reliable efficient infrastructures. He directs IBM's continuing energy efficiency efforts on its high end platform, System z. David has worked on every mainframe starting with the 3081 in 1981 to the current mainframe, the System z9, the most popular and energy efficient mainframes to date. His career has included managing I/O chip design for the zSeries, planning mainframe products for small and medium size Clients and managing IBM Poughkeepsie's Cost Engineering Department. Today about 80% of his time is spent directly with Clients and the other 20% of his time with the IBM technical teams. As the Green expert for System z and the IBM Poughkeepsie Executive Briefing Center, his knowledge includes current and future products and Data Center trends and directions. David is passionate about Systems and Energy efficiency. He has assisted in Systems Development with mainframe to x86 Servers to thin clients. David educates IBMers, Business Partners, Universities, Clients analysts and the press on energy efficiency, Green Data Centers, Virtualization, Server and Data Center Trends and Directions, IT Optimization and Service Oriented Architecture. His understand of System hardware includes technical aspects such as microprocessor design, RAS functions, power and cooling optimization as well as how and why Customers are using different platforms. As one of IBM's Large Systems experts he presents to 1000's of Clients each year. He welcomes feedback and requirements from all as this is how the Systems Dev. teams can focus their efforts on the products that IT needs and wants, both now and in the future.
