NEW YORK — 7×24 Exchange Intl. announced the election of two new officers. Cyrus Izzo, co-president of Syska Hennessy Group, has been elected president of the organization, and Juli Ierulli, e-commerce operations and customer support manager of Caterpillar Inc., has been elected vice president.
PHOENIX — The theme of this year’s 7×24 Exchange Intl.’s Fall Conference — The New Horizon — could not have been anymore spot on. The word “horizon” offers two meanings. It can be defined as the line where the Earth meets the sky, and it also refers to the limits of one’s perception, experience, and desire. But, in the end, these two things are really one in the same.
On the second day of the 7x24 Exchange fall conference, here in San Antonio, John Pflueger, Tahir Cader, and David Sterlace sat down to talk about sustainability and efficiency in the data center.
The conversation centered on the continued need for energy management in the data center and the huge strides that have been made in the last few years, not least of which are the Green Grid’s many metrics for measuring and therefore, hopefully, managing energy consumption going forward.
We all just got back from Texas and the 7x24 Exchange. This year the venue was the JW Marriott San Antonio Hills and the theme was “Commitment to Excellence.” Once again the 7x24 conference team delivered just that … with the best of everything available to over 750 attendees. We all shared snow crab claws and jumbo shrimp on Sunday evening.

Pursuing Google’s mission of organizing the world’s information to make it universally accessible and useful takes an enormous amount of computing and storage. In fact, it requires coordination across a warehouse-scale computer. Ten years ago, we realized that we could not purchase, at any price, a datacenter network that could meet the combination of our scale and speed requirements. So, we set out to build our own datacenter network hardware and software infrastructure.

Do we need another data center metric? A new data center metric to measure probability and risk was proposed at the 7×24 Exchange Spring 2015 Conference. Read about the highlights of the presentation by Steve Fairfax of MTechnology.

As business demands and energy costs for data centers rise, owners and operators have focused on the energy efficiency of the data center as a whole, frequently using energy efficiency metrics. However, the metrics are not always applied clearly and consistently. To address these inconsistencies, a group of leaders from across the industry met on January 13, 2010 to agree on data center energy efficiency measurements, metrics, and reporting conventions. Organizations represented were the 7×24 Exchange, ASHRAE, The Green Grid, Silicon Valley Leadership Group, U.S. Department of Energy’s Save Energy Now and Federal Energy Management Programs, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR Program, U.S. Green Building Council, and Uptime Institute.
